I didn’t really believe most of the predictions about doom and gloom at the so-called end of the Mayan calendar on 12/21/2012, but it’s great to read a very positive perspective on the “end of the world” propaganda. After reading this book, I am reminded that Earth is a fantastic playground for the soul. It’s too precious to be destroyed. What Will Happen in 2012?

The question, “What will happen in 2012?” is being asked by a great many people. The Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012 which has given rise to a considerable amount of speculation about what might happen, including predictions that the world will either end or that we will experience some sort of catastrophic event.

Who were the Maya?

The Maya occupied a vast area in Mesoamerica, or middle America, and their civilization developed to an advanced stage in many disciplines between 250 AD to 600 AD, reaching its peak from approximately 600 -900 AD. At the height of the Mayan civilization, its people held a high level of knowledge in fields such as mathematics, astronomy and architecture and the Maya used a complex writing system and created an intricate calendar.

What did the Maya Predict ?

Did the Maya really know what will happen in 2012? There are three surviving books written by the ancient Maya, in their heiroglyphic writing system. These are known as codices and one is stored in a museum in Madrid, another in Paris and the third in Dresden.

The Dresden Codex is 800 years old and in it are the Mayan prophesies for end of the world. According to anthropology and history professor, Nikolai Grube, who has studied the codex for 20 years, it contains a warning chapter, with heirglyphs showing heavy rain and the destruction of the earth due to climatic factors.

The Maya were used to experiencing frequent tropical storms and hurricanes and so it is not surprising that they would believe that the world could end as a result of a natural event. On the last page of the book, the destruction of earth is represented by a celestial crocodile. However, there is nothing in the codex to indicate that this will come about on 2012, 21^st Dec. But many of those with an interest in the Maya , including their ancestors, believe that there is a link.

So Is it Really Possible to Predict What Will

Happen in 2012?

The end of the world has been predicted time and time again and many of the dates on which this was supposed to happen have come and gone. Since we have difficulty accurately predicting the weather for even a few days ahead, is it likely that we will be able to predict something like the end of the world?

Some of the end of the world warnings you will find online and elsewhere are based on biblical prophesies. For those who take the Bible literally, recent natural events such as earthquakes and tsunamis, as well as the global economic crisis may be interpreted as proof of various end of the world prophecies in the Bible. And these events have led to many people, irrespective of their religious beliefs, that something cataclysmic is going to happen soon.
